Motorized Watercraft within Sensitive Areas at Hatzic Lake and Tributaries

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

There has been concerned expressed about irresponsible motorized watercraft operators speeding through areas close to shore or up valley in sloughs and streams. Our society has applied to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund (HCTF) for a grant to protect and educate people about aquatic habitat and species at risk. We propose to install Blue Heron roosts, speed restriction/educational/sensitive area signage at key areas at the lake and tributaries, and distribute community and public notifications with this information (posters/brochures). We are also proposing to remove invasive plants along the shoreline and within the lake near the bridge and plant native vegetation. We are hoping to get additional funding to do more of this and other types of restoration and educational works in the watershed. If approved we will reach out for volunteers to help implement the project. In the meantime, you can reach out to hatzicwatershed@gmail.com.
